The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) has over one hundred members from eighteen countries across Asia and the Pacific, consisting of former political, diplomatic and military leaders, senior government officials, and scholars and opinion leaders. APLN aims to inform and energize public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.
SHIOMURA Ayaka
Ayaka Shiomura is a Member of the House of Councillors and former member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.
Ayaka Shiomura is a Japanese politician and since 2019 a member of the Tokyo Prefecture 's House of Councillors, the upper house of the national parliament. Previously she was a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2017.
Born in 1978 in Hiroshima, Ayaka Shiomura is the daughter of an A-bomb survivor. She graduated Kyōritsu Women's Short University (Kyōritsu joshi tanki daigaku) in 1999 during the employment crisis. After studying abroad in Australia, she worked as a freelance writer and became a writer for popular TV and radio information programmes.
Shiomura aspired to become a politician to create a better working environment for women, to support animal welfare activities and provide relief for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 2013 she ran for the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election and in 2019 she ran for the House of Councillors election in 2019.
