Seeking Centrality - U.S.-ASEAN Ties in 2023

APLN member Sarah Teo is featured on the podcast ‘Engaging the Eagle – Exploring U.S. Foreign Policy in Southeast Asia’ to discuss U.S.-ASEAN ties with Adrian Ang, Sharon Seah, and Kevin Chen. They point out that there are valid reasons for Washington to prioritise bilateral ties with ASEAN countries over ties with the overall grouping. However, there are also trade-offs in engaging less with ASEAN, and Washington should strike a better balance, especially in practical cooperation.
