Nuclear and Climate Injustice: Creative Perspectives from the Pacific Islands

On 5 November 2022, the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN) co-hosted a closed-door webinar with the New Zealand Centre for Global Studies (NZCGS) on the inequities and injustices associated with nuclear weapons policies and practices that exacerbate existential risks, including climate change, in the Pacific Islands.

The webinar showcased the winners of the 2022 Pacific Islands Creative Competition: Nuclear Weapons and the Climate Crisis: Luisa Tuilau, Sharon Kumar, Bedi Racule, Mere Tuilau, and Dorell Ben. The winners presented their entries and shared the message and creative process behind their work, which seeks to highlight the legacy of nuclear weapons testing and the existential threat of climate change in the Pacific Islands. Dr. Chris Gallavin, NZCGS Trustee, Chief Executive of Sisters of Compassion, and poet, delivered the opening speech.
