APLN members Manpreet Sethi, Melissa Parke, Tong Zhao, and Tatsujiro Suzuki participated in the Global Nobel Laureates Assembly on Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear War, held from 14 to 16 July 2026 in Castel Gandolfo and Rome.

The Assembly brought together Nobel laureates, scientists, policymakers, technology experts, and faith leaders to examine the implications of artificial intelligence for nuclear risk, strategic stability, arms control and disarmament, and the governance of emerging technologies.

During the Assembly, Melissa Parke spoke with Vatican News about the growing risks posed by nuclear weapons and artificial intelligence. She called for a renewed focus on dialogue, diplomacy, disarmament, and international law .

The Assembly concluded with the adoption of Humanity at the Threshold: A Declaration on Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear Weapons. The declaration calls for meaningful human control over nuclear decision-making and an international treaty prohibiting the reckless integration of artificial intelligence into nuclear command, control, and launch systems.
